Mary is determined not to accept a pre-scripted role that society has set for her as a woman in Judea during the first half of the first century. She yearns to be free of restrictions. When she refuses to agree to marry a family friend, her brother and father believe she is possessed and seek a healer with rising fame named Jesus. After Mary meets Jesus, though, she is so impressed with his teachings and loving personality that she decides to follow him. The result is a journey for Mary that her family had certainly never intended for her.
